     Department of Finance was established in 1996 with Dr. Roger C. Y. Chen (the incumbent President of First Tech) assuming the first chairperson. Focusing on both theory and practice, this Department aims to meet the financial markets’ manpower demand and to cultivate talents that can manage business finances in the 21st century. Alumni of this department can be found having decent performances in financial institutions, enterprises, the public sector as well as the academia.

     In hopes of meeting the financial manpower demand of various levels in Taiwan, the Department offers a comprehensive set of programs, including the undergraduate program, the graduate program, and the executive master program. “To study practically for the purpose of application” is the goal of this Department; curriculum planning is based on the actual demand of the financial industry. To improve the employability of students, the undergraduate program puts emphasis on the senior project education and the teaching of financial certification and licenses, integrating theory with practice. The master program highlights the study of financial research; the publishing of periodical articles and seminar papers carries much weight in this program. Furthermore, the Department regularly holds academic workshops and keynote speeches to increase the quality of teaching and research.

        The Department currently has 10 full-time professors, all with a PhD degree. Being held in high regard by the finance academia in Taiwan, they are one of the most important assets in this Department and are highly devoted to teaching. Their work can usually be found in renowned periodicals at home and abroad. The respectfully high number of Research Project of National Science Council which they have conceived and their periodical papers is eminent in First Tech.
